Privacy Policy

The short version: PrintWise3D is a desktop app that runs entirely on your computer. It does not phone home, does not track your prints, and does not send your designs anywhere. The only data we hold about you is what you give us when you buy a license or contact support — your name, your email, and a one-way hash of your computer’s hardware ID that exists so license keys can’t be shared with the entire internet.

Who we are

PrintWise3D is operated by PBD Products LLC based at 111 SE 3rd Street, Faucett, MO 64448, USA. We’re reachable at support@printwise3d.com for product questions and info@printwise3d.com for licensing or privacy matters.

This policy explains what personal data we collect when you visit printwise3d.com, buy a license, or use the PrintWise3D desktop app, and what we do with it.

What we collect

When you use the desktop app

The desktop app runs offline. It does not send analytics, telemetry, crash reports, model files, print settings, or any usage data to us or to anyone else. It can only reach the internet for one optional purpose: pulling new printer and filament definitions when you click “Check for updates” in the sidebar. That request goes to a static manifest hosted on GitHub Pages and includes no personal data.

The app stores three things on your own machine, never transmitted anywhere:

  • Your license key file, at %APPDATA%\PrintWise3D\license.key on Windows, or the equivalent user-config directory on Linux and macOS.
  • A license binding sidecar that contains a SHA-256 hash of a stable hardware identifier from your operating system (Windows MachineGuid registry value, Linux /etc/machine-id, or macOS IOPlatformUUID). This hash exists so that a leaked license file can’t be activated on a different machine. The original hardware ID cannot be recovered from the hash.
  • Your preferences, including printer and filament selections, at ~/.printwise3d/preferences.json.

When you buy a license

Our checkout is powered by WooCommerce with payments processed by WooPayments (Stripe under the hood). At purchase we collect:

  • Your name and email address, used to issue the license and to send you the welcome email containing your key.
  • Billing address as required by the payment processor for tax and fraud-prevention purposes.
  • Payment card details. We never see or store your card number. Stripe handles the card data; we only receive a transaction ID and the last four digits of the card for reconciliation.

After a successful purchase, your name, email, license tier, issue date, and expiry are recorded in our internal license log so we can support you and process transfers or renewals.

When you contact us

Emails sent to support@printwise3d.com or info@printwise3d.com are routed through Cloudflare Email Routing to a Gmail mailbox we operate. Your email address, name, and the content of your message are stored in that inbox for as long as is reasonably needed to handle your request.

When you visit the website

Our website uses standard analytics and security infrastructure that may collect:

  • Google Analytics 4 (via the Site Kit plugin) — anonymized page views, traffic sources, and approximate geographic region. We do not enable Google’s advertising features; the data is used to understand which pages are useful.
  • Google Search Console — aggregated search-query data so we can improve our documentation.
  • Cloudflare — standard request logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL) for security and abuse prevention.
  • LiteSpeed Cache + Solid Security — transient technical logs to keep the site fast and safe. Logs are purged on a rolling basis.

When you sign up for our newsletter or beta program

If you provide your email through a signup form, it’s stored in our FluentCRM database (hosted on the same WordPress instance as the website). We use it to send the messages you signed up for, and nothing else.

How we use what we collect

  • To issue and validate license keys.
  • To send transactional email (your license key, receipts, beta-phase notices).
  • To respond to support requests.
  • To improve the product based on aggregate usage of the website and direct feedback you give us.
  • To meet our legal and tax obligations.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not build behavioral profiles. The whole product is built around the idea that you don’t need a server connection to use the analyzer, and we’d like to keep it that way.

Who we share it with

We only share personal data with service providers who need access to operate the product:

  • Hostinger — web hosting for printwise3d.com.
  • Cloudflare — DNS, request routing, and email forwarding.
  • Google (Gmail, Site Kit, Search Console) — email delivery, website analytics.
  • WooPayments & Stripe — payment processing.
  • GitHub — hosting the static manifest the “Check for updates” feature reads from. This is a public, read-only static file with no personal data.

We may disclose information if we’re legally required to (subpoena, court order, statute), but we’ll resist overbroad requests where we can.

How long we keep things

  • License records — for the lifetime of your license plus a reasonable period afterwards to handle warranty or transfer questions.
  • Purchase records — for at least seven years, to meet US tax requirements.
  • Support emails — up to three years after the last reply, then archived or deleted.
  • Newsletter / beta contacts — until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete you.
  • Website analytics — per Google’s default GA4 retention (14 months).

Your rights

Regardless of where you live, you can ask us to:

  • Tell you what we have about you.
  • Correct anything that’s wrong.
  • Delete your data (we’ll keep what we’re legally required to retain, but everything else goes).
  • Export your data in a portable format.
  • Stop sending you marketing email (every newsletter has a one-click unsubscribe link, but you can also just reply “unsubscribe” and we’ll handle it).

To exercise any of these rights, email info@printwise3d.com from the address tied to your account. We’ll respond within 30 days.

California residents (CCPA)

You have the rights described above. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA. You will not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.

European Economic Area and UK residents (GDPR)

The lawful bases we rely on are: contract (to deliver and support the software you bought), legitimate interest (to keep the website secure and to understand aggregate visitor patterns), and consent (for newsletter signups, withdrawable at any time). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children

PrintWise3D is intended for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, please email info@printwise3d.com and we’ll delete it.

Cookies

Our website uses a small number of cookies:

  • WordPress login session cookies (only if you log in — almost no one but us does).
  • WooCommerce cart cookies (only if you start a checkout).
  • Google Analytics 4 cookies for visit counting.
  • Cloudflare security cookies (__cf_bm, cf_clearance) for abuse prevention.

You can disable cookies in your browser; the site will still work for browsing and downloading, but checkout and login will not.

Security

We use HTTPS everywhere. License keys are signed with an Ed25519 private key that lives offline, not on any web server. Payment data never touches our infrastructure — Stripe handles it end-to-end. The WordPress installation is kept up to date and protected with two-factor authentication on admin accounts. No system is unbreakable, but we take the steps a responsible small operator should take.

International transfers

Our servers are located in the United States. If you’re visiting from elsewhere, the data you send us (including via email and the website) is transferred to the US. We rely on the standard contractual clauses and similar mechanisms our service providers (Google, Stripe, Cloudflare) maintain for international transfers.

Changes

If we update this policy, we’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top and, if the changes are material, send a notice to active customers. Older versions are available on request.
