Licenses

How do I activate after purchase?

License key emails within seconds of purchase. Copy it (starts with pw3d_v1_), launch PrintWise3D, paste it on the activation screen, click Activate. No internet needed – verification is offline.

What’s the difference between Maker, Pro, and Master?

Maker ($19.99) – printer + filament databases, plain-English orientation, basic slicer table, profile export. Pro ($29.99) – adds anisotropy analysis, load painting, multi-material / MMU / IDEX planning, engineering rules dispatcher. Master ($49.99) – adds raw G-code, Klipper macros, custom rules, DB overrides, API console.

Can I upgrade tiers later?

Yes — upgrade yourself in minutes at printwise3d.com/upgrade: choose your upgrade, paste your existing license key to verify it, and your new key is emailed automatically. You only pay the difference. Prefer we handle it? Email support@printwise3d.com with your license ID.

What’s the license bound to?

Your computer. On first activation, PrintWise3D writes a small binding file that ties the key to your machine’s hardware fingerprint (Windows MachineGuid / Linux machine-id / macOS IOPlatformUUID – never transmitted). Prevents leaked keys from being activated elsewhere.

I got a new computer. How do I transfer?

Install PrintWise3D on the new computer and launch it. Because your license is still tied to the old machine, you’ll see a transfer screen instead of the app. Click Activate on this computer — that is the whole process. It works offline, takes a moment, and needs no email.

Your license covers one computer at a time, so activating here releases it from the previous machine. You can move it back the same way whenever you like.

If the button reports an error, email info@printwise3d.com from the address you registered with, including your license ID (shown in the app sidebar).

Why does PrintWise3D ask me to re-activate on my new computer?

Every license activation binds to the specific machine you activate on (Windows MachineGuid / Linux /etc/machine-id / macOS IOPlatformUUID). This is what stops a leaked license file from being usable elsewhere – your license key file alone isn’t enough to activate; the binding on disk has to match the current machine.

If you move to a new computer, replace the motherboard, or restore from a backup onto different hardware, the binding won’t match and you’ll see a transfer screen instead of the normal app. Click Activate on this computer on that screen and you are done — your license re-binds to the machine you are on, offline and straight away.

The same button covers reinstalling on the same computer. If a hardware change or a fresh install has left a stale binding, activating again clears it. You only need to contact us at info@printwise3d.com if that button reports an error.

Refunds

What’s the refund policy?

30 days, full refund, no questions. Email support@printwise3d.com with your order ID. Refund processes within 3-5 business days back to your original payment method.

Install

How do I install PrintWise3D on Windows?

Run the .exe installer and follow the prompts. If PrintWise3D is already installed, the installer replaces that copy – you do not need to uninstall first. Your license, printer profiles and settings are stored outside the install folder and are left untouched.

An .msi is also included in your downloads if your environment requires that format.

How do I install PrintWise3D on macOS?

Pick the right download first. Apple menu > About This Mac. If it shows an Apple M-series chip (M1, M2, M3, M4 and so on), take the Apple Silicon (aarch64) .dmg. If it shows an Intel processor, take the Intel (x64) .dmg. Both are in your download list after purchase.

Open the .dmg and drag PrintWise3D onto the Applications folder. Eject the disk image, then launch PrintWise3D from Applications or Launchpad.

That is the whole process. PrintWise3D for macOS is code-signed with our Apple Developer ID (Team QT7BH82V36) and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it normally – there is no “unidentified developer” warning and no right-click workaround to perform.

Windows shows a SmartScreen warning when I run the installer.

Our Windows installer is digitally signed by PBD Products LLC, so you will see our verified publisher name rather than an “unknown publisher” warning. On a brand-new release, Windows SmartScreen may still show a one-time prompt until that version builds reputation.

If you see it: click More info (small grey link, easy to miss), then Run anyway. Windows remembers the choice and will not ask again on this machine.

How do I install PrintWise3D on Linux?

Download the package for your distribution and install it, then launch PrintWise3D from your applications menu.

Debian / Ubuntu (.deb): sudo dpkg -i PrintWise3D_*_amd64.deb (or double-click it in your software center).

Fedora / RHEL / openSUSE (.rpm): sudo rpm -U PrintWise3D-*.x86_64.rpm.

Uninstalling: the installed package name is print-wise3-d, not printwise3d – so on Debian / Ubuntu it is sudo apt remove print-wise3-d. On Fedora / RHEL / openSUSE it is sudo dnf remove print-wise3-d (or sudo rpm -e print-wise3-d).

System requirements?

Modest. Windows 10/11 x64, or Ubuntu 22.04+ / Fedora 38+ (any glibc 2.31+ Linux). 4 GB RAM, 1 GB disk. macOS 12+ on Apple Silicon or Intel.

Features

What file formats does PrintWise3D accept?

STL, OBJ, 3MF, STEP. If a STEP file errors, convert it to STL upstream in your CAD tool.

Does it support multi-material printers?

Pro and Master tiers – AMS, MMU3, IDEX, toolchangers. Full compatibility matrix, purge-tower planner, interface-layer planner. Maker tier is single-extruder workflows.

How often does the database update?

Every few weeks. Updates are signed, free, manual. Click Check for updates in the sidebar when you want them.

Does PrintWise3D phone home?

No. Zero network calls at runtime. The “Check for updates” button is a one-way HTTPS GET to a public file. No telemetry.
